Dov Hammer has been known for 30 years as Israel's top Blues artist. The singer/songwriter/harmonica player has played with great US Bluesmen and led his own Blues bands is thousands of shows on stages across Israel, the USA and Europe.
In "Black flag", Dov Hammer steps outside his usual playing field with a one-of a kind Americana-style song. Sparked by the "Black flag" anti –corruption protests that have raged across Israel in the past year, the song is a personal reflection and reaction to the corruption that sparked the protests, and the violent reactions that the protesters have faced
To create this special song, Hammer has joined forces with a longtime friend and collaborator, guitarist Assaf "Sweettooth" Rozov. The two met in 1990 as up-and –coming blues musicians, backing their mentor, Canadian Bluesman Ted Cooper. Besides collaborating with Hammer in several bands and as an acoustic duo, Rozov has played at the prestigious Rochester Jazz festival, as well as touring and recording with major Israeli artists such as Miki Gavrielov and the band "Knesiat hasechel"
How can I play my song today
What can I say, that’s not been said
I can’t stay silent, won’t obey
I don’t play by your rules the game has changed
Black flag-
flying on the bridge tonight, I’m here to make a stand
I'm gonna blow my horn, shine a light
of hope across this land
Are those cheers that I hear
Or just white noise in my ears
Ain't it clear that a change is near
Can’t you see we’ve got no fear
Black flags-
in the streets they’re flowin’, like a human hurricane
Sticks and stones can break our bones,
but this storm can’t be contained
Like a wild wind blows, like water flows
Through cracks in a stone, it never stops or slows
Like the king’s new clothes, the truth exposed
The wicked man knows, he’ll reap just what he sowed
Black flags -
flying from north to south,
from the mountains to the shore
Beat us, cheat us, try to keep us out,
but we won’t turn back no more
